Designer and maker
of artistic vases
with wooden components.
Our association with Hawaii motivated me to venture into the design of wooden vases.
Hawaii is blessed with beautiful, exotic flowers, it has a population of mixed cultures that absolutely adore not only the beauty of flowers but also the placement and presentation of them. The blending of these cultural values is what I try to express in these art forms. the goal is to create a functional decor in which the vases and flower it contains will compliment each other on equal footings.
I choose wood as the medium because I feel that it is the most naturally related to flowers. I use built-up components instead of turning wood blocks because the vases look less symmetrical, lighter, and more detailed, and offer shapes. The criteria extends further into the type and size of flowers expected to be used and the manners and occasions in which they are presented.
